UCSFEFA Guest Speaker Series: Sarah Knox, PhD
12:30-2 p.m. Pacific time

Join the UCSF Emeriti Faculty Association (UCSF EFA) for a virtual talk entitled “Regenerating the Salivary Gland Takes a Lot of Nerve!” by guest speaker, Sarah Knox, PhD, associate professor in the UCSF Department of Cell and Tissue Biology.

Salivary glands are inadvertently damaged by radiotherapy for the treatment of head and neck cancers. Due to the absence of regenerative treatments, the resulting dry mouth lasts a lifetime. Through a series of studies in small and large animal models, we show for the first time that irradiated salivary glands can be functionally regenerated through sustained release of neurogenic cues. This lecture will showcase the mechanism by which this occurs and the steps being taken for future clinical application.

UCSF is committed to making its facilities, activities, and events accessible. To request accommodations for this event, please send us an email at least one week before the event date.
